Afropoly — Terms of Use

What Afropoly is

Afropoly is a property-trading board game set across Africa. You can play it on your own against computer players, or online with other people. Playing on your own is free, and there are no ads. Online play, private rooms and a few extras are part of Afropoly Club, a subscription that starts with a free trial.

Play money only

The cowries in Afropoly are play money. They have no value outside the game, cannot be bought, sold or exchanged for anything real, and are not a prize. Afropoly is not gambling and involves no real-money betting of any kind.

Your account

When you first open Afropoly you play as a guest, with an anonymous account created for you. You can link it to Google or Apple so your friends and name follow you to a new phone. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and for keeping the Google or Apple account you link to it secure.

Afropoly Club

Afropoly Club adds Quick Match, hosting and joining private rooms, Hard bots and house rules. Every new account gets it free for 30 days, with no card needed; the trial is once per phone, so a new account on the same phone carries on from where the last one was. After the trial you can subscribe monthly or yearly through the App Store or Google Play, at the price shown before you pay. The store takes the payment, renews it automatically at the end of each period, and handles cancellations and refunds under its own rules: cancel at least a day before the period ends to avoid the next charge, and the Club stays until the end of the period you paid for. Solo games against Easy and Normal bots, in Classic or Jollof, stay free without the Club. Prices and what the Club includes may change; the store tells you before a price rise affects you. Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription, so cancel it in the store first; if it still renews when you ask to delete, the app warns you and offers the way to the store's page to cancel.

Playing fair

Pick a name others would be comfortable seeing, and keep reactions and table talk friendly; you can mute anyone at your table. Do not cheat, exploit faults, interfere with other players' games or the game servers, or pretend to be someone else. Names that are offensive or impersonate someone may be changed, and accounts that spoil the game for others may be blocked from playing online.

Online games

Online matches are run by Afropoly's game server, which decides every move so that everyone plays by the same rules. If you drop out or leave, a computer player takes your seat so the game can go on; you can come back to it while the match is still running. Matches may end early if the service has to restart.

No warranty

Afropoly is provided as it is. It has been built carefully and tested on real devices, but it cannot promise to be free of faults or always available, and online play depends on servers and networks outside your phone. Games, scores and friends lists may occasionally be lost.

Changes to these terms

These terms will change as the game does. The date at the top of this page says when they last did. Carrying on playing after a change means you accept the new terms.

Getting in touch

Anything at all — a fault, an idea, a complaint — is welcome. Share feedback and Report a bug, under Settings → More, both come straight to me.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana.

What the game stores, and where, is set out in the privacy policy. Questions are welcome on the support page.
